Rieza originally comes from Indonesia. He did his bachelor (cum laude) on Pharmaceutical Science and Technology in Institut Teknologi Bandung, one of the nation’s best. He went on to work in a food company, PT Nutrifood Indonesia (Jakarta) as a Product Developer and then in Business Development. In 2011, Rieza decided to pursue a master degree in the University of Groningen, the Netherlands in Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation (cum laude).
In 2013, he started his PhD under the supervision of Prof Jan-Willem Veening on host interaction of Streptococcus pneumoniae and graduated on the 13th of July 2018. His project mainly focuses on the transcriptional adaptation of the bacteria and involves next-generation sequencing and the data analysis thereof. He likes to have a bird-eye view on an issue and prefers not be bogged down in details.
